Tips for Applying

Resume

Many new students have difficulty crafting their first resume, especially if they don't have prior professional experience. Here are some questions that may get you started and will help us understand you as a driven student who cares:

  • Have you worked on some really cool projects?

  • Have you ever balanced school, life, and a part-time job?

  • Are you involved in your communities? How?

  • Do you have volunteering or service learning experience?

  • Are you a self-taught coder? Beatboxer? Underwater basket-weaver? What skills have you learned inside or outside of the classroom?

  • Have you ever managed a group of people to get something done?

Written Application

We want to get to know you better! Here are guidelines for the three key components of our written application:

  1. Why SEGC?
What drew you to social impact consulting and SEGC specifically? Did anything stand out to you from coffee chats, info sessions, or your own research?

  2. Why Social Impact?
Is there a cause you deeply care about? How have your personal experiences or research shaped your perspective? Tell us about it.

  3. Your Dream Client?
Is there a corporation, social enterprise, or nonprofit that has always caught your eye? How does it connect with your interests or experiences? What issue are you excited to help solve?

Interview

Linked here is a description of SEGC’s interview process and some resources to guide you as you prepare.

If you are invited to our interview round, bring your best self.

We believe the inability to have professional clothing should not be a barrier to an individual’s pursuit of professional opportunities. That's why our dress code is campus casual.

Campus casual means dressing like you're making a good first impression on your first day of class. Jeans, skirts, dresses alike are welcome.

We do not require applicants to wear business formal attire.

In addition, we understand that other clubs, interviews, and events may still require professional attire. Linked here is the Wardrobe, a service at Cornell that offers a free rental service for suits, dresses, skirts, blazers, and more.
